About Us

The San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society is located in Bakersfield, California. We are a group of rock hounds dedicated to the sharing of knowledge about the lapidary arts. We meet weekly for workshops in lapidary, silversmith, and wire wrapping/beading. We were founded in 2005, and are incorporated as a 501 (c) 3. Part of our focus is education, and offer a program for area elementary school 4th and 6th graders that supplements their geology studies.

LAVIC SIDING TRIP MAY 19-20.

SJVLS members on a recent field trip.
Time: May 19, 2016 to May 20, 2016

Location: Lavic Siding, Mojave Trails National Monument

Organized By: Kris W. Rowe of Rockhound Fieldtrip Fanatics

Rockhounds, here's your chance to make a real statement about your passion for rock collecting throughout the Mojave Desert, and gather with a host of great rockhounds.

The planning process for the new National Monuments BLM management plan has begun, and the Mojave Desert Advisory Committee has scheduled a site visit to Lavic Siding for 2 pm on May 20th, 2016.

I'll be out mining in the Mojave with the Tilley Family  that week, and will be out at Lavic Siding on May 19th, with plenty of garbage bags, foam signboards and Magic Markers. We'll dedicate the 19th to collecting refuse from throughout the surrounding area, while rockhounding, of course.

In the days leading up to the Rockhound Roundup at Lavic Siding, we'll be collecting as much garbage as we can carry from all of our favorite Mojave desert collecting and digging sites, and make a HUGE pile at the Roundup site.

For rockhounds who want to meet up and join us in our casual mining & cleanup pursuits before the Lavic Siding meet up, I'll be posting a projected itinerary on May 7th, on my Blog. If you wish to join us, please post a message to me at My Page.

All rockhounds are welcome to join in with us and enjoy some great rockhounding, campsite camaraderie and, of course, tailgating to trade great rocks!

If you can't make it out for the 20th, but can join us in casual mining and cleanup along the way, feel free to call me, message me on My Page, or on the Rockhound Field Trip Fanatics! Facebook Group. Just ask to join, and I'll "add" you.

 More details soon!

 Kris
