About Us

The San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society is located in Bakersfield, California. We are a group of rock hounds dedicated to the sharing of knowledge about the lapidary arts. We meet weekly for workshops in lapidary, silversmith, and wire wrapping/beading. We were founded in 2005, and are incorporated as a 501 (c) 3. Part of our focus is education, and offer a program for area elementary school 4th and 6th graders that supplements their geology studies.

CLARIFICATION ON BARSTOW COLLECTING

Dear SJVLS Members,

I just spoke to the BLM Field Manager in the Barstow office regarding the status of the newly declared protected areas around Barstow as it affects rock hounding, and specifically if the area is open or closed to rock collecting this Sunday.
She said the following: Until they receive clarification, the area remains open to collecting, (specifically for this Sunday). She further said it is a possibility that the area may remain open to collecting even after the newly proclaimed designations are in place.
So, I hope this clears up any uncertainties about the status of our fieldtrip to this area on this coming Sunday, February 21, 2016.
