About Us

The San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society is located in Bakersfield, California. We are a group of rock hounds dedicated to the sharing of knowledge about the lapidary arts. We meet weekly for workshops in lapidary, silversmith, and wire wrapping/beading. We were founded in 2005, and are incorporated as a 501 (c) 3. Part of our focus is education, and offer a program for area elementary school 4th and 6th graders that supplements their geology studies.

'The Teachers and the Student'

As Cindy learns to use a jeweler's saw she is closely watched by her five 'teachers'. Her project is coming along very well, and we (all five of us) are very proud of her.  She took all that tutoring from us very well. Photo taken by Char.

Just a reminder that there is a general meeting on Jan. 16th at 9:30 am. The board met Jan. 9th, and a summary of that meeting will be available by the 16th. Lots of business to attend to.

The club newsletter, Slab & Gab, has been reborn with the Jan. 2016 issue edited and produced by member Kevin Philley.
