About Us

The San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society is located in Bakersfield, California. We are a group of rock hounds dedicated to the sharing of knowledge about the lapidary arts. We meet weekly for workshops in lapidary, silversmith, and wire wrapping/beading. We were founded in 2005, and are incorporated as a 501 (c) 3. Part of our focus is education, and offer a program for area elementary school 4th and 6th graders that supplements their geology studies.

Shep Koss Fund Raiser

Update on Shep:

Sadly Shep Koss has passed away since this writing. The
Fund Raisers are still on. I hope that a group of us will
be able to go to the sale on September 13th. The address is 382 Chimney Canyon Road, Lebec.  Sale hours are from 8am to 12 pm, no early birds.
Some of you will remember Shep Koss, a friend and fellow rockhound. He has been diagnosed with cancer of the stomach that has spread and is being treated at this time. He lives in the mountains near Frasier Park, and was an active member of  our club years back. He shared his knowledge with us on many fieldtrips and was always there to help with our club shows.
He needs our support and there is a fund raiser coming up on September 13, 2015 at his home in Lebec. His collection is being sold. Over the years Shep has collected from the desert, and fossils from Bakersfield. He has a wonderful collection. If you can make this sale please do. For more details on how to get there and exact time please contact the Sierra Pelona club at sierrapelona@gmail.com.
Shep is pictured on the right in this photo taken during a fieldtrip to Brown Butte, and Castle Butte
in the Mojave Desert. Here he is being asked to help
identify a rock. The trip was a Sierra Pelona trip, and I was happy to be a part of it. Thank you, Sally Larsen.
