The San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society is located in Bakersfield, California. We are a group of rock hounds dedicated to the sharing of knowledge about the lapidary arts. We meet weekly for workshops in lapidary, silversmith, and wire wrapping/beading. We were founded in 2005, and are incorporated as a 501 (c) 3. Part of our focus is education, and offer a program for area elementary school 4th and 6th graders that supplements their geology studies.

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of former member Carolyn Duff.
Ken (Red) Duff her husband called me early on April 9th to tell me that Carolyn had passed away. He said she had had a severe stroke just before Christmas, and was left completely paralyzed.
Those who knew her may remember her and the Christmas Party where she brought a friend with to the potluck, and her friend later did a skit with the ladies, all about getting older. It was hilarious and a total surprise. Carolyn hosted a wire wrapping learning session at the Duff's home, she was a patient and knowledgeable teacher. She was active in the Kern Mineral Club, and always exhibited her jewelry at the Kern County Fair. There you would see her sitting in front of her case, on her walker, arranging and rearranging the display. Many times she would tell me of the time spent with her grandchildren, and how they enjoyed making things together.
We had not seen the Duff's in sometime, and I was pleased to get a call from Carolyn before Christmas. She was asking about our shop meetings, and wanting to come. She felt good, she had a new doctor, she was ready to go. When she didn't come, I passed it off as being busy with family and holidays, and after Christmas the Duff's usually went to Quartzite, so I let it go. God speed, Carolyn and God comfort your family in the coming days, months....Sally Larsen
