About Us

The San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society is located in Bakersfield, California. We are a group of rock hounds dedicated to the sharing of knowledge about the lapidary arts. We meet weekly for workshops in lapidary, silversmith, and wire wrapping/beading. We were founded in 2005, and are incorporated as a 501 (c) 3. Part of our focus is education, and offer a program for area elementary school 4th and 6th graders that supplements their geology studies.

calendar.gifThe SJVLS general meeting of March 21 had 24 members signed in. Following the general meeting Gene Stirm gave a demonstration on enameling with a torch. If there is enough interest among our members he will give workshop/classes in enameling.

Our April schedule for meetings is as follows: April 4, no meetings, this is the Saturday before Easter; April 18 is the Garden Fest and we will have no meetings but be busy as participants in this event at Bakersfield Junior College; April 25 there is a fieldtrip and general meeting scheduled, because of this there will be no general meeting, but the shop will be open for those who do not go on the fieldtrip.
