The San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society is located in Bakersfield, California. We are a group of rock hounds dedicated to the sharing of knowledge about the lapidary arts. We meet weekly for workshops in lapidary, silversmith, and wire wrapping/beading. We were founded in 2005, and are incorporated as a 501 (c) 3. Part of our focus is education, and offer a program for area elementary school 4th and 6th graders that supplements their geology studies.

Pictures above are from a trip to the Hooney Claim in Nye Canyon. Don Reading invited the group to go along to this amazing spot. The quartz is there, in giant masses, and pieces on the ground. Everyone who went had a great time. Another trip is planned for Sept. 12, 13, 14.
Our workshop continues to meet on Saturday morning at 8 am. We now have a 8" saw for cutting. Thanks to those who have helped get it running, without leaks, and for supplying us with the blade. This piece of equipment is on loan to us from a member. In fact nearly all of the shop equipment is loaned.
We will have a general meeting in September on the third Tuesday. It will be held at 3020 N. Inyo St. At 6:30 pm. Tim Findley will be giving a presentation on mining. Tim is our past president, and is a mining engineer. Hope all of you can come.
Visit our Yahoo site(s). Yes there are currently two. The San Joaquin Valley Lapidary Society site, and a new one called Bakersfield rockhounds, both are Yahoo group sites.
